Next-generation creative leaders

Put your creative ambitions into motion. Learn how to develop your vision to launch your own brand and break new ground in the fashion industry.

In addition to a solid foundation in the theory and art of fashion, students gain practical knowledge in everything there is to running a business. Partnerships with Japanese and international brands provide valuable hands-on experience in coursework tailored to launching their own brands. Students learn the theory and techniques that underpin creation, from the communication skills to explain their vision in English, to the ability to use digital technology to make new ideas possible. Our program seeks to cultivate the next generation of competent creative directors with the well-rounded skill set to thrive on the global stage.

Yoichi Nagasawa

Yoichi Nagasawa

Following a stay in France, I worked as chief designer for TOKIO KUMAGAI and then set up my own business. After presenting my YOICHI NAGASAWA brand at Tokyo Fashion Week, I took part in Paris Fashion Week for many years. In addition to roles in general production for the clothing departments at AEON, Muji, New Balance and many other well-known firms, I have done a lot of work on uniforms for Tokyo Metro and other major companies. I also have an extensive track record in a wide variety of areas such as holding exhibitions at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa and other venues in Japan and overseas. I am an honorary visiting professor, teaching on the Fashion Design course, at Kanazawa College of Art’s Department of Design, and I am a recipient of the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix.

Yoko Kumada

Yoko Kumada

University of Victoria, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Anthropology, B.A. in Anthropology with distinction. Ochanomizu University Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences PhD program in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, Doctorate in Social Science. My research areas are gender, sexuality and cultural anthropology, and currently I also teach at Tokyo Metropolitan University and Ochanomizu University. I am a member of the Japanese Society of Cultural Anthropology, International Society for Gender Studies, International Union of Anthropological and Ethnographical Sciences, and other associations.

Hiroyuki Furuta

Hiroyuki Furuta

After working in brand sales, store management and merchandising at Bigi Co., Ltd., I became director and general manager for the sales division at Alfaspin Co. Ltd., where I vigorously drove brand development forward. I then worked in overseas brand importing at Ferrira International Co., Ltd. before moving to the Student Affairs Office at Tokyo Mode Gakuen. Currently, in addition to my university administrative roles as student affairs manager and head of the Fashion and Business Department, I teach apparel merchandising and fashion planning.

Blending the best of traditional Japanese techniques and modern skills embraced by Europe’s leading brands, we seek to develop professionals that can shakeup the global arena.

Drawing on a wealth of academic and industry experience, talented instructors present a balanced education in both the creative and business sides of fashion. Our program offers students the unique opportunity to learn local techniques and make professional inroads with extensive practical training at companies in Osaka and the greater Kansai region. Students also gain a solid footing in techniques used by international brands, preparing them with a well-rounded toolkit that can be deployed to contribute new value at a global level.

Teruyuki Fujii

I started up my own original brand TERUYUKI and exhibited at a fashion show held at the Paris UNESCO headquarters. I then took part in shows in Tokyo that brought me to the attention of the media and the industry. In addition to developing an apparel consulting business, I have been involved in a wide range of activities such as textile development in material-producing areas all over Japan: Kurashiki workwear materials, Bishu woolen materials, clothing materials development, and development of blankets, wool and towel material etc. produced in Senshu.

From Tokai to the world

Drawing on rich local textile traditions, we cultivate talent that can contribute craftsmanship from the Tokai-Chubu region to the world’s leading brands.

Our program offers a balance between the creation and business of fashion. Students have the opportunity to learn from instructors with a wealth of international experience and special expertise in Nagoya’s rich local fashion scene, famed for textile production. Lessons in the classroom are reinforced with extensive practical training at companies and traditional producers throughout the Tokai-Chubu region. Graduates are uniquely positioned to showcase the region’s acclaimed woolen textiles with craftsmanship that can be appreciated the world over.

Kiyoshi Okumura

Kiyoshi Okumura

I graduated from Nanzan University, Faculty of Economics, Department of Economics, and hold a B.A. in Economics. I spent 11 years working in the UK for Miyuki Keori Co., Ltd. After roles in the Management Information Department and other areas, I became the company’s managing director. I then served as managing director at the Japanese subsidiary of the French high-class clothing fabric brand Dormeuil before taking up my current post. I specialize in global-level business development for the textile industry. I have also held roles such as Chair of the Aichi Textile Industry Conference and Chair of the Boards of Nagoya Woolen Textile Industry Association and the Men’s Fashion Unity.
